Splendid in its simplicity to install and operate, this computer driving situation allows you to take the regulator of a 1930s passenger locomotive and tackle 'real' sections of the Settle to Carlisle railway.

The simulated cab offers levers, handles and gauges which can easily be controlled by the mouse and a window through which a postage stamp sized view of the road ahead can be glimpsed. While the computer technology is easy to master, locomotive driving skills have to be learnt - and the program invites you to sit a drivers exam and test beforehand.

There are two levels, one for novice drivers and the other for experienced engine men, with hazards and point scoring to make it fun for all the family as well as the computer literate railway buff. Much background information about the operation of steam locomotives is accompanied by easy to follow diagrams.

Much thought and preparation has gone into this highly entertaining and educational value for money package. There is also an interactive quiz, many colour pictures of contemporary locomotives and a free screen saver included.
